Xiansheng Sun
Dr Xiansheng Sun is an IETS Advisor with more than four decades of experience in the energy sector, gained across more than a dozen countries through senior roles in industry, policy research and international energy cooperation. His expertise covers global energy dialogue, energy security, energy transition, oil and gas markets, international energy cooperation, and China's energy policy and planning.
Dr Sun is Chair of the International Society for Energy Transition Studies (ISETS). He continues to advise international and intergovernmental energy dialogues and maintains leadership and advisory roles across global energy networks.
Previously, Dr Sun served as Secretary-General of the International Energy Forum, where he held diplomatic status as head of mission, and as President of the China National Petroleum Corporation Research Institute of Economics and Technology. He was the founding president of one of China's first national high-end think tanks and the first Chief Researcher of the institute. He also held leadership and advisory roles with the Asian Gas Market Forum, the Northeast Asia Gas and Pipeline Forum, the China Petroleum Society, the Shanghai Futures Exchange Strategic Committee, the London Energy Club, the Global Energy Prize jury and the World Energy University Alliance. Dr Sun advised the China-Russia Vice-Premier Dialogue Mechanism and United Nations Economic and Social Council-related expert work, participated in four G20 Energy Ministerial Meetings, organised and chaired ministerial and high-level forums under the International Energy Forum, and chaired Belt and Road energy roundtables and other major international energy cooperation forums. He also led senior international projects and external cooperation negotiations for CNPC, delivered keynote speeches at international conferences and published more than 30 academic papers.
Dr Sun holds an LLM, a PhD and an honorary doctorate from the University of Dundee.
