Elspeth Thomson

Elspeth Thomson is the Senior Publications Editor at IETS. Her expertise spans Southeast Asia’s energy sector; China’s energy sector; energy economics; energy security; energy and the environment. She provides editorial support to energy researchers across the world, but predominantly in Asia.

Thomson supports IETS publication quality, editorial consistency and final review of reports, commentaries and policy briefs; provides remote editorial and research support, including ad hoc editing for the International Energy Agency and ASEAN Centre for Energy.

Previously, Thomson held senior, advisory or committee roles including research Fellow, East Asian Institute, National University of Singapore; Senior Research Fellow and Head of the Energy and Environment Division, Energy Studies Institute, NUS; taught economic geography at Simon Fraser University and economics at Lingnan University.

Thomson holds qualifications including PhD, School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London (1993); thesis on China’s coal industry.
